- H3 : Many youth are homeless and alone. Across the nation, youth homelessness is on the rise. Henderson County is no exception. Each year, school officials identify an average of 300 homeless students over the course of the year. Of those, approximately 85 are homeless and not in the physical presence of a parent or guardian. We have no youth shelter, and when foster care cannot be found for those who qualify, young people must move outside the county. This disrupts schooling, as well as social structures.
